PET OF THE WEEK: Meet Smoky, an outgoing hamster
Here's what Kimberly Imbert, Animal Shelter Operations Supervisor with Fairbanks North Star Borough Animal Shelter, had to say:
"Hi, I'm Kimberly, and this week's pet of the week is Smoky.
Smoky is an 11-week old hamster. He came to the shelter because unfortunately, his owner had passed away, and the rest of the family was unable to care for him.
Smoky is a very friendly, outgoing hamster and really sweet. So he'd be a great pet for someone that wants a small pet or a child that wants a small pet who has the handling skills for something so small. He really likes to eat treats and he likes to snuggle up and sleep during the day, because hamsters are usually active at night.
Hamsters are pretty low-maintenance pets. They just need to have their cage cleaned at least weekly, have fresh food and water, and have the occasional treat but not too many because they're tiny and they don't wanna get too large.
Smoky has a lot of other small animal, dog, and cat friends looking for loving homes as well."
