Now, you might be thinking of an ol' bloodhound tracking runaway prisoners when you hear this name. But he's actually an energetic sled dog.

Meet Red, who's available for adoption at the Fairbanks Animal Shelter.

Here's what Kimberly Imbert, Animal Shelter Operations Supervisor with Fairbanks North Star Borough Animal Shelter, had to say:

"Hi I am Kimblerly and this weeks Pet of the Week is Red. He is a sled dog who has been at the shelter for a couple weeks. He was brought to the shelter because his owner was unable to care for the pet because of the current situation. Red is a special sled dog. He is one that actually seems to have potential to be a leader. And those often are really good at skijoring as well.

Red has a big intimidating bark so he is really good at protecting the home with his bark, but he is really friendly and sweet when you walk right up to him."

Imbert also says that Red also has other friends at the shelter looking to be adopted. The shelter is only doing the adoptions by appointment so she encourages people to go online and see if they can find a new friend.
