Three dead in Noatak after snowmachine falls through ice

The Alaska State Troopers in Kotzebue were notified the morning of Monday April 15, of three people who died after their snow machines broke through the ice.

Alaska State Troopers released the names of those involved in the incident.

36 year old Jan Westlake, 31 year old Amber Westlake, and 11 year old Alexandria Howarth, all of Noatak.

An additional member of the group was able to reach the village of Noatak and notify search and rescue officials.

According to the a report from the Troopers, it was not immediately clear which area of the water the riders fell into.

The report also stated the snow-machines carried several people.

Families of those involved have been notified. AST and Alaska Wildlife Troopers are investigating.
