On Tuesday evening students received the following notices regarding their scholarships:

Dear Student,

This message is to provide you with an update regarding 2019-2020 school year awards for the Alaska Performance Scholarship (APS) and Alaska Education Grant (AEG) programs. Funding for the 2019-2020 school year is included in the fiscal year 2020 (F20) budget; however, the funding source for these programs requires additional legislation to make those funds available in FY20. As a result, FY20 funding for APS and AEG award is not currently available. It is important to note:

These programs were not vetoed. The Governor and Legislature have indicated desire to make the programs available for the upcoming year. The issue is that the current funding source does not have funds available for the programs.

We are hopeful that this situation will be resolved with legislation over the next month; however, as of this time, ACPE is not able to make awards under these programs.

Unless and until legislation is passed to replenish the funding source for these programs, ACPE is unable to make commitments for APS and AEG awards for the upcoming year.

At this time, we encourage you to submit your FAFSA and work with your school to complete all of the requirements to be eligible for an APS or AEG award. This will ensure you are in the best position should funding become available. If you have questions, please submit a Help request via your Alaska Student Aid Portal (ASAP) account or email us at
