University of Alaska Fairbanks Vice Chancellor and Athletic Director, Keith Champagne, announced on June 3, that he will be creating the 'Alaska Nanooks Athletic Director's Inclusion and Diversity Council' in the wake of George Floyd's death. Champagne attributed that the events that happened on May 25 lead to setting up this council.

"The senseless killing of George Floyd on May 25, 2020 has once again exposed the systemic and institutionalized racism in our country," said Champagne in an online statement. "The subsequent civil unrest explicitly demonstrates the lack of progress within the nation's elusive quest of social justice and societal equity."

Champagne says that before the 2020-2021 academic school year, that they will have this new council in place.

"Well first thing the council fits in within the vision and framework what Chancellor White has established," sad Champagne. "So it fits in with our vision, his philosophy for what we're trying to accomplish here at UAF and it meets our strategic priorities."

Champagne says that he will be taking in input from student-athletes, former athletes, community leaders and many more to set up this UAF council.
