University of Alaska Fairbanks chancellor finalist for University of Wyoming president position
University of Alaska Fairbanks Chancellor Dan White is a finalist for a position as the President of the University of Wyoming in Laramie, Wyoming. He is one of three finalist selected for the position. He will be going to Wyoming next week for an interview. If he gets the job he will start on July 1.
White has been the chancellor at UAF since 2017, and has been working at the university for the past 25 years. He has been chancellor during the rocky financial times that the university has been experiencing. According to White he is not leaving because of the budget issues at UAF.
“No, I am not concerned about UAF and UAF’s future and the budget. I think we are in a great position.” White added that, “I am not considering this opportunity because of consolidation of campuses, it is an opportunity at the University of Wyoming.”
White said, instead, that the reasons for applying for the position are because of his personal and professional interests. Adding that he has family that lives near the University of Wyoming.
Should the job not go through, White said he plans on staying on at UAF as chancellor and is not applying for other jobs or considering retirement. White said that if he does leave, he is confident that the transition will go well.
“It’s my expectation that if the University of Wyoming decides that they would like me to be their next president and that works out for me then this leadership team would continue on and I think we would have a very smooth transition,” White said.
White said he should know whether he gets the job by the first week of March.
