Fairbanks Angler Takes Third in Valdez Halibut Derby

After a lengthy and dramatic fishing season, we officially have the winners for the Valdez Fishing Derbies.

We'll start with the final weekly winners of the Halibut Derby.

Brian Warwick from West Chester Pennsylvania took second for the week with a 123.20 pound Halibut that he caught on August 30th on the Jamie Lynn.

Travis Johnson from right here in Fairbanks was able to edge past Warwick with a 123.80 pounder that he caught on September 2nd on the Tremendous.

There is another Fairbanks Angler in the top overall spots, Russel Young and his 226 pound Halibut will take third place for the year.

His was caught on June 23rd on the Dan Orion.

Valdez's Doug Cranor took second with a 239 pounder that he also caught on June 23rd, which was caught on the Redhead.

Patricia Johnson from Clovis California blew past the competition with a 285 pound Monster Flatfish.

She caught her derby winner on July 26th on the Harvester.

In the Silver Salmon Derby, Leslie West from Provo Utah took third with a 16.48 pounder.

Daniel Schneider from Anchorage took second with a 16.64 pounder while Aksel Hutchinson from Valdez is this year's Silver Salmon Champion with a 17.28 pounder which he caught on August 11th on the Amanda Rose.
