Hutchison basketball celebrates their seniors
The Hutchison Hawks basketball programs played their final home game of the season on Saturday, hosting the Monroe Catholic Rams for an Aurora Conference double-header. The Rams played spoiler, as the boys won 87-40, while the girls won 50-28.
Prior to tip-off, the Hawks celebrated the careers of Preston Silas, Deion Frank and Mason Young. Silas has been a a part of the Hutch program for the past two season, while Frank and Young have been a Hawk for all four years of their career.
"I'm going to miss this, I was a little nervous [before the game]." Silas said. "Hanging out with my teammates, coaches and friends, everyone is friendly and nice and everyone gets along." Silas added about what he will miss about his time at Hutch.
"I am going to miss my fellow seniors Preston [Silas] and Mason [Young, hopefully we get to stay together and it is crazy how close we became," Franks said after the game, after leading Hutch with 12 points. "I just love being with these guys, it is always a good time."
Frank eclipsed the 1,000-point total for his career earlier this season, while Young is knocking on door, likely to reach the milestone in Hutchison's next contest.
"My sophomore year is when I had to step in and I was a big part of the team," Young said of his leadership growth over the years "When I was young, I really kind of took leadership on the team."
"It is kind of funny to see them, because I never really thought of them as the 'mature' group, but once they became seniors and were asked to step into that leadership role, they have brought it and they have become quite the leaders." Hawks head coach Shane Johnston said of his senior class.
Hutch will hit the road before continuing Aurora Conference play next week. Monroe's Quinn McHenry led all scorers with 25 points, while Evan Puryear added 17 in their victory.
