Sometimes, the puck doesn’t bounce your way. Despite outshooting Janesville 39-19 on Saturday night, the Ice Dogs could not find the back of the net enough, falling 4-2 to the Jets at the Big Dipper.

Janesville was opportunistic, scoring four on Ice Dogs goaltender Mattias Sholl (15 saves), despite never having double digit shots on goal in a period.

As he did on Friday, Luke Ciolli opened up the scoring with his fourth goal of the season early in the first, with assists coming from Matt Koethe and Jack Johnston. Koethe also assisted on Ciolli’s opening goal in Friday’s 4-1 win over the Jets.

Less than 60 ticks off the clock later, Janesville’s Luke Wheeler knotted the game at one apiece. Another Jets goal early in the second gave Janesville their first lead of the series.

Third-year veteran Tyler Deweese locked the game back at two with a goal in the second period, getting helpers coming from Laker Aldridge and Oliver Kjaer. Kjaer, a forward from Esbjerg, Denmark, recorded his sixth assist and ninth point of the season, both good for second on the Ice Dogs.

However, similar to the first goal, the Jets responded within a minute, taking the lead right back after Nick Nardella’s goal. Janesville picked up an insurance goal early in the third period, handing the Ice Dogs their first Midwest Division loss of the season.

Fairbanks sits at 7-4-0-1 on the season and 6-1-0-1 in the division, as they head back on the road for the next four games. Next weekend, they will travel to Texas to take on the Amarillo Bulls for a two-game series.
