The first week of the Valdez Halibut Derby has come to a close, and a Trio of Interior Anglers hold the top three overall spots.

The top spot currently belongs to Clayson Wiley, a 16 year old from North Pole who reeled in a 148.4 pound Halibut on May 26th.

That fish was, obviously, the weekly leader for week 1 as well.

Johne Mahle, a fisherman from Gillete Wyoming, took the #2 spot for the weekly standings with a 91.2 pound Halibut.

Two fishers were able to catch some massive Halibut one day after the first week came to an end, which allowed them to round out the overall standings.

Brian Auvil from right here in Fairbanks pulled up a 107.4 pounder, while Megan Bauer from Two Rivers also broke the hundred pound mark, bringing in a 105.2 pound Halibut.

Both of those fish were caught on May 27th and the Top two monster fish were caught on the Dan Orion.

Week one of the Derby is now complete and these anglers will look to hold their place for another few months.

The Derby comes to an end on September 2nd and the person with the heaviest fish will win $10,000, second place will earn $3,000, and third will take home 15 hundred.

The Silver Salmon Derbies are set to start on July 21st.
