The Halibut Derby continues down in Valdez, and the weekly winners were announced for July 2nd through the 8th.

It was a good week for Interior Anglers as Jim Rothenbuhler from Salcha brought in the biggest fish of the week, pulling up a 130 pounder on July 3rd.

Teri Tyree out of North Pole caught the second biggest Halibut of the week with her 114 pounder that she reeled in on July 2nd.

The Overall leaders in the derby still have a fairly hefty lead.

Tim Stadtmiller, from right here in Fairbanks, is the current overall leader with the 266 pound monster Halibut that he brought in on June 19th.

Wasilla's Daniel Schmitz is holding second place with a 176.6 pounder he caught on June 12th.

And Hali Lombardi is in third place with a 176.4 pounder.

The Halibut Derby gives a 15,000 dollar cash grand prize for 1st place, 5,000 dollars cash for second place, and 2,000 dollars for third.

There is still plenty of time to get in on the action as the Halibut Derby will be going on until September 3rd.

The Silver Salmon Derby and Kids Pink Salmon Derbies begin on July 22nd, and the Women's Silver Salmon Derby will begin on August 12th.
