Valdez Fishing Derby weekly winners: July 23-29
The Valdez fishing Derbies have announced the weekly winners for both the Halibut and Silver Salmon Derbies for July 23rd through the 29th.
Two out of State Anglers brought up the biggest Halibut of the week.
Thomas O'Leary out of Manhattan Montana brought in a 167 pounder on July 28th to make him the leader for the week.
Jim Miland from Boyd Wisconsin took the runner-up position with a 152 pound Halibut he reeled in on July 23rd.
Fairbanks' own Tim Stadtmiller is still the overall leader with the 266 pound monster halibut he caught on June 19th.
Daniel Schmitz out of Wasilla is in second place with a 176.6 pounder, barely edging out Hali Lombardi and her 176.4 pounder she caught on July 11th.
The weekly winners for the Silver Salmon Derby were also announced.
Cole Baxter out of Fayetteville Georgia caught the biggest Silver of the Week.
His 15.6 pounder also made him the top overall leader in the Silver Derby.
Valdez residents are currently holding down 2nd and 3rd place overall, Weston Branshaw is in second place with a 12.42 pound Silver, and Crista Anderson is in third with a 12.18 Pounder.
Both derbies have the same prizes, first place receives a $15,000 cash Grand Prize, second place receives $5,000 and third place will receive $2,000.
All anglers who enter in the derby will also have a chance to win $10,000 cash in a drawing at the end of the season.
Both of these Derbies will last until September 3rd.
Don't forget that the women's Silver Salmon Derby will take place on August 12th.
This is the 13th annual Women's derby and will be put on by the Silver Salmon Sisterhood.
There is a $50 registration fee and the weigh in hours will be from 9am to 6pm on the 12th.
