West Valley High School formally welcomed their new head football coach, who will be taking over the program in the fall.

Roy Hessner will be taking the reins for the Wolfpack beginning in 2019.

Hessner, who spent 30 years in the Marine Corps, joined West Valley last February to serve as the Senior Marine instructor for their JROTC Program.

Last football season he was an assistant for the Wolfpack boys while also serving as the interim head coach for the Flag Football team.

Besides training Marines in combat for nearly 30 years, he also served as the Strength and Conditioning, Linebacker, and Runningback coach at Joshua Springs Christian School in Yuka Valley California.

Hessner now takes the next step in his career, and looks forward to leading the Pack.

"I'm just excited for the opportunity, it's obviously a once in a lifetime opportunity. Literally a year ago before I interviewed for the head coach job I interviewed for my job here at West Valley, so it's been a whirlwind. Fortunately, last year I got a little experience with that stepping in for the head coaching for the flag football team. But, it's just another day at the office kind of thing," said Hessner.
