The West Valley Wolfpack volleyball program has finally broken through the barrier.

In a five set match with cross town rival Lathrop, West Valley came out on top for their first win of the season after dropping their first seven contests. The two Mid Alaska Conference foes swapped sets through the first four, before the Wolfpack overpowered the fifth and final set 15-8, tasting their first victory of 2019.

"We are really happy, I mean it helps our name get around because right now, we are known as one of the weaker teams." West Valley's Skyler Wolf said. "I think that this win will help us out with our confidence."

The red and gold commanded the net, coming up with timely blocks throughout the contest. Rachel Cockman rejected 8 attacks for the Wolfpack, while Charlotte Curry added six. Pam Noll provided a double-double with 10 kills and 10 digs.

Erin Pomeroy and Ali May matched each other's 19 assists, while Skyler Wolf carried the attack with 14 kills, while adding 13 digs. As for Lathrop, TT Tagovailoa came up with 15 kills in the loss, while Harmony La'apui contributed 10 kills and five blocks.

"I think our energy was really high, and we went into the game not fearing to lose, but wanting to win." Wolf added.

Teams are jousting for conference position as we get deeper into the season. West Valley will host Monroe on Wednesday, while the Malemutes will travel down to Sitka next weekend.
